Find A Need and Fill It

Yesterday my boss and I were discussing the future of our organization and what we wanted to achieve. We do this often given that we sit in an open office environment without walls or even cubicles.

During the conversation I told him that we need to “find a need and fill it” versus the idea that Kevin Costner made popular in the movie “Field Of Dreams”, which is build it and they will come.

I ran across the article below which contradicts the advice of find a need and fill it.

Instead, the author of this article says to find a want, touch your market… and lead a movement. Interesting and thought provoking.

I don’t think I’m ready to abandon find a need and fill it just yet though. 😉

Is “find a need and fill it” bad marketing advice?
